Western Bass Club - contributed by Derwood Jones

One of Howard’s many joys was the Western Bass Club in Seattle, the oldest bass club in the United States, chartered in 1932.  A member for many years, and past president for two separate years, he enjoyed the bass fishing and casting contests the Club held several times each year, and was an eager, and competitive participant.  As a member of the Club, Howard considered bass fishing one of the finest of all sports and held himself to the highest standards of sportsmanship.

Many of Howard’s life-long friends came from the Western Bass Club, and he enjoyed not only bass fishing with them, but also bird hunting, and the many social events sponsored by the Club each year, including the annual wild game dinner and dessert auction held at Norm’s Resort at Cottage Lake.

The Club and the memories and friends meant a lot to Howard, and in his later years, he enjoyed telling and re-telling the various stories and adventures he experienced over the years.
